Old Chinese Criteria
1. The most general current word for one's home region is xiāng 鄉, or xiāng qǔ 鄉曲. 2. Jiā 家 acquired the meaning "home" late, and the word typically focusses not on the region where one lives, but one's family home. 3. Tǔ 土 is occasionally used to refer to the area from which one originates.
